BOPF Congratulates Roy Hackett on his MBE

BOPF Congratulates Roy Hackett on his MBE for services to the Bristol Community! It is long overdue!

A recent Guardian article speaks of Roy’s remarkable impact on this country since his arrival from Jamaica nearly seven decades ago. And now he’s collected a well deserved MBE, perhaps this is a good time for his friends and community to reflect on our experience of and regard for this most civilised of men, who consistently got things done cheerfully and politely without bluster or false promise.

Roy is the best example I know of why and how Bristol changed from a place of exclusion and division when he first came here, to become a much admired city of welcome and inclusion. Roy, a long time member of BOPF, is a gentleman, an influencer, a doer, innovator, role model, happy soul and good friend to many people of all backgrounds. Bristol Older People’s Forum offers our heartfelt congratulations to Roy, and to his family, who must be very proud.

If you have a story involving Roy or (someone else you admire), however long or short, please let us know.  Please send contributions and enquiries to bopf@ageukbristol.org.uk or post to BOPF c/o Age UK Bristol, Canningford House, 38 Victoria Street, Bristol, BS1 6BY.
