Improving End-of-life Experience using AI-enabled tools
Please note that this study will continue recruiting participants until 31 May. However, they encourage anyone who is interested to register as early as possible.
BOPF members and supporters are invited to take part in research on end-of-life conversations and decision-making, led by the University of Bristol Interaction Group, in collaboration with AI for Collective Intelligence Hub, and Bristol Health Partners.
Who can take part
You may be able to take part if any of the following applies:
- You are a person considering end-of-life care planning for yourself,
- You are a person living with a life-limiting illness,
- You are a family member, friend, or carer involved in end-of-life care, or
- You are a health or social care professional involved in supporting people at the end of life.
All participants must be aged 18 or over and be residents of the UK.
Project Overview
We want to learn what makes discussions on end-of-life easier or harder, and what helps people share what matters most to them. We are also exploring whether artificial intelligence (AI) could play a supportive role in this space. Rather than replacing human care, AI may help people begin conversations, reflect on what is important to them, communicate their preferences, and support discussions between individuals and those involved in their care.
What participation involves
To participate you will be invited to take part in an 1-2-1 interview or a group discussion about your experiences and views. Topics may include:
- How end-of-life conversations are approached or avoided
- What feels difficult, helpful, or missing in conversations and decision-making
- What matters most to you in end-of-life care planning
- How technologies might better support you during the journey
All participation is voluntary. You will be compensated for your time at £20 per hour in shopping vouchers.
You can choose what you feel comfortable sharing, and you may withdraw at any time. The study has received ethical approval, and all data will be handled confidentially.
