Dear all,
Bristol is now a city in mourning after confirmation from the Royal Family that Her Majesty The Queen has died at the age of 96. Our thoughts and condolences go to the Royal Family at this difficult time. Over the coming days there will be opportunities for the city to express their condolences and further details of these plans are included below.
Following this announcement, the Union and St George’s flags outside City Hall and flags at civic buildings across the city will be lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect. City Hall will be lit up purple in memory of Her Majesty.
Anyone wishing to lay floral tributes in memory of The Queen are asked that you lay them at the West End of Bristol Cathedral. Books of condolence will also be available at City Hall and Bristol Cathedral alongside a Bristol e-book, and a national e-book of condolence.
A joint letter of condolence from the Lord Mayor and Mayor of Bristol will shortly be sent to the Royal Family. Bristol’s Proclamation Day, a public event, will take place in front of the fountains on College Green at a date and time yet to be agreed.
Public statements will shortly be issued by the Lord Lieutenant, the Lord Mayor and the Mayor of Bristol to share the detail we contained in this email. Please feel free to share with your networks as you see fit (see above).
Further details of arrangements associated with the passing of the Monarch will be made available soon.
Best wishes,
Bristol City Office
