Celebrating Age Festival Launch – October 2022
The Celebrating Age Festival (CAF) is an annual event in Bristol, challenging stereotypes about ageing and encouraging older people to try something new and make connections across the city. The festival launches on 1st October to coincide with the International Day of Older Persons. CAF offers a wide variety of low-cost or free events and activities throughout the month aimed at people over the age of 50, although all ages are welcome to participate.
The festival showcases what’s going on across Bristol for you, including one-off events and it highlights activities put on by local organisations on a regular basis. Notable mentions include a performance by Bristol Recovery Orchestra at City Hall on 3rd October, an open afternoon at Alive Activities allotment on 7th October, a disco at Trinity Centre on 9th October and a celebration of Black History month at the Malcolm X Centre on 13th October. In amongst these events are regular shared reading groups, catch up cafes, tech support drop in sessions and much, much more!
The full programme of events and activities taking place over October can be found on Age UK Bristol’s website listed in date order. Or call Age UK Bristol on 0117 929 7537 to request a paper programme.
Chief Executive at Age UK Bristol, Kay Libby said, “We’re delighted to be launching the Celebrating Age Festival for 2022, the last two years of the annual festival were more low key due to the pandemic but we’re now back bigger than ever. It’s wonderful to have so many great partner organisations joining in from all across Bristol.”
Chief Executive at Alive Activities, Isobel Jones said, “It’s fantastic to be involved in the Celebrating Age Festival once again, maximising and promoting the many events and activities on offer in October. The festival is something that Alive is proud to support each year and we hope to see you there!”
CAF is led by a collaboration of voluntary organisations who together have formed the ‘Bristol Support Hub for Older People’.
If you are running an event or activity in October that you’d like featured on the festival webpage, please email comms@ageukbristol.org.uk with all the details.
