Ian Bickerton

Ian retired several years ago, having spent much of his career working in a number of local authorities, mainly as a head of service in Education, Children’s Services, and, finally, Leisure and Libraries.

Ian has had various volunteering roles, including for Bristol Ageing Better, the Royal Voluntary Service and the University of the Third Age, and as well as a walk leader for LinkAge/St Monica Trust and the Ramblers. He really enjoys participating in some of the many walking groups that now operate in Bristol – not only is it great to be active, but it is also very sociable and a really good way to make friends. What other time he has, he spends with his family, including his three lovely grandkids!

Ian was both delighted and honoured to become Chair of Bristol Older People’s Forum in July 2019, and is aiming to make a positive contribution to the very valuable work that the Forum carry out. The Forum has a unique role to play by giving those over 55 a real voice within the community and thereby influencing decision-makers.
