Durdham Down to Sea Mills

Sea Mills is the site of a Roman settlement and harbour, known as Portus Abonae, with the the harbour being restored in the early 18th century.

From the Water Tower, cross the Downs towards the junction of Saville Road and Hollybush Lane. Follow Hollybush Lane downhill with the Bristol Botanic Gardens on your left. Continue along Hollybush Lane to the very end, where you turn right into Druid Hill. Continue right along Parry’s Lane, and then turn left at the end of Stoke playing fields, into Ebenezer Lane.

Continue to the very end and then left into Bell Barn Road. At the end of this road turn right into Shirehampton Road, and after a short distance, turn left along a footpath opposite the Mill House PH. Follow this footpath into open land and continue until you reach Sea Mills harbour.

You can catch a train from Sea Mills to Temple Meads Station, and numerous other stations en route, on the fascinating Seven Beach line:  https://travelwest.info/rail/severn-beach line

Alternatively, you can return by foot to the Downs the same or a similar way, or back along the banks of River Avon.
